ARS School and Homefront Impact Project (A-SHIP)

Empowering the Next Generation to Lead the 25% Revolution

Algamuda Recycling Services (ARS) is a Nigerian-based enterprise dedicated to sustainable development through resource recovery, circular economy consultancy, and specialised research. We introduce the ARS School and Homefront Impact Project (A-SHIP) as a local embodiment of the 2026 Earth Day theme, "Our Power, Our Planet". By transforming schools into hubs of civic mobilisation, we are empowering the next generation to turn small steps into big ripples.

The primary goal of A-SHIP is to facilitate a deep shift in environmental sustainability habits among school-aged children. Through A-SHIP, we move beyond awareness to foster purposive action and lifelong advocacy.

  • Awareness: Sensitising students to the principles of environmental sustainability.
  • Behavioural Change: Promoting the adoption of best practices in waste segregation and management.
  • Economic Literacy: Demonstrating the value-chain potential and economic benefits of waste recovery.
  • Advocacy: Cultivating a generation of "Change Agents" to lead their communities.
  • Data Generation: Generating evidence-based insights into the behavioural patterns of young adolescents.

A-SHIP utilises a rigorous, evidence-based methodology comprising curricular and extra-curricular interventions designed to shift cognitive behaviour. We transform passive observers into active participants by equipping them with specific technical skills and a proactive attitude.

We track impact and validate behavioural shifts using a multi-layered data system:

  • Environmental Literacy and Agency Survey (ELAS): Measuring shifts in knowledge and the student's sense of power to effect change.
  • Waste Audit/Characterisation: Measure actual waste generation and composition.
  • Transect Walk: Observe environmental evidence of practices.
  • The "Green Diary" System: A daily tracking tool for 3Cs Club members to monitor their environmental footprint and internalise green habits.
  • A-SHIP App: Tracking real-time data on the collection of plastic recyclables, reward, impact points and potential CO2 offset.

Core Activities

Stakeholder Advocacy

Engaging the Ministry of Education, private school associations, and PTAs to secure institutional buy-in.

The 3Cs Club

A dedicated hub for students, teachers, and parents to lead collective climate action.

Monthly Knowledge Competitions

Stimulating intellectual engagement through debates, essays, quizzes, and creative arts focused on sustainability challenges.

Weekly Sustainability Assemblies

Dedicated talks to drive the "unlearning" of harmful practices.

Recover and Reward Scheme

  • A structured incentive programme to recover up to 1 ton of PET and Mission 1 Million (to collect 1 million or about 2 tons of water sachets (HDPE) for cash and non-cash rewards.

Mission 1 Million

A mission to recover one million sachets (~2 tons) to eliminate urban environmental hazards.

  • Students: Students transform into purposeful change agents who unlearn harmful habits and take purposive action to influence their peers and families, gaining direct exposure to economic opportunities through waste recovery..
  • Schools: Establish themselves as green hubs of excellence by institutionalising sustainable management and meeting global environmental standards.
  • Communities: Enjoy improved health and flood-free streets as students advocate for clear gutters and an end to poisonous plastic burning.
  • Policymakers: Gain access to evidence-based, longitudinal data on youth behavioural patterns to drive smarter urban waste and sustainability policies.
  • The World: Directly combat climate change by diverting tons of plastic from landfills, open fires, and drainages through a "25% Revolution".

Timeline

April 2026

  • Phase 1: Mobilisation and Baseline Establishment – Secure institutional buy-in from relevant authorities and stakeholders; generate baseline data using ELAS, waste audit, transect walk and informal waste workers interviews; equip facilities with waste-management tools.
  • Phase 2: Intervention – Launch Weekly Sustainability Assemblies and the “Green Diary” tracking system; hold Monthly Knowledge Competitions to stimulate intellectual engagement; carry out neighbourhood campaigns and community actions/activities.
  • Phase 3: Recovery – Activate the “Recover and Reward” scheme for PET/HDPE and initiate Project 1 Million for sachet recovery, verifying all data via the A-SHIP App.

01. March 2027

  • Phase 4: Validation – Administer ELAS surveys to measure agency shifts and provide evidence-based longitudinal data to policymakers for policy and programmatic actions.
